Mistress Script font

Apostrophe (')

This is version 2.0 of Mistress Script. In this version I have a cofession to make: the shapes were originally based on a font called Splate designed as an OEM for greeting cards. My perspective is that Mistress Script is an experiment in combining elements from three common categories of today's typography: the typewriter, the modern elegance of Swiss sans strokes, and plain ol' calligraphy. This experiment was mainly to debunk two theories: 1) The great Jan Van Krimpen's famous belief that "calligraphic influence in type should be no more than an underlying force," and 2) The common belief being passed on nowadays in most design school around the world, teaching that typewriter serifs convey a blank emotional state that has more to do with machinery than with human touch. Hopefully you'll see the success that I believe was achieved with this experiment. '
